Making Money with Hubpages: The Hubpage Experiment

By FaithMarie

Like every newcomer there is a lingering question that sits in the back of my mind, “Is making money with Hubpages possible?”

When it comes to making residual income online almost anything is possible as long as you understand there are key elements involved. First, you must find a legitimate method of earning money online. Second, you have to take time to research the methodology behind earning residual income. Third, you must be willing to spend hours expending time and effort for little or no earnings during the initial stages. Forth, (and finally) you must give your residual earning stream time. Residual income is not the road to take to “get rich quick” and it may never make you rich – but it has the potential to generate income.

Is Earning Residual Income Online Possible?

Yes, it is! I currently generate a stream of residual income writing for eHow. But it took me months of learning and work before my residual income grew beyond a trickle. So it raised the question – “Is making money on Hubpages possible too?”

The Hubpage Experiment

Everyone who earns residual income online writing has limitations on time, and this varies between individuals. I am creating a personal Hubpage experiment to maintain my motivation, and prove it is possible to generate significant residual income no matter how busy your schedule may be.

Making Money with Hubpages: The Short Term

The first stage of the Hubpage Experiment will require me to publish 8 Hubs per month. This means I must write and publish 2 Hubs per week. This will allow me to write quality hubs, focus on keywords and SEO, and not throw my schedule off balance.

So what about the making money part? As I learned with eHow writing quality content is a key component to earning residual income. The money will follow – but it must be given time.  My goal is to earn my first dollar by the end of my second month on Hubpages.

Making money with Hubpages: The Long Term

By writing 8 Hubs per month, I will have 48 published in 6 months and 96 Hubs in 12 months. Granted this is not record breaking speed, but it is workable even with a busy schedule.

Based on my experience with eHow, I should be able to generate around $1 per day in residual income by the 6 month mark. But since Hubpages is a different system it is hard to estimate what the residual earning potential will be.

The End Result?

Granted this is anyone’s guess. But by the sixth month of my Hubpage Experiment I will be able to answer the question – “Is it possible to make money with Hubpages?” and “Will Hubpages be a significant addition to my current method of earning residual income?”

However, I do hope there are others who will be willing to try the Hubpage Experiment with me – and set a personal goal based on your schedule. Good luck to everyone!

I think you'll find that Hubpages is way more profitable than eHow. I would suggest doing keyword research before deciding what topics to write about. This is the single most important thing that will determine your income, even more than making quality hubs. http://takinghubmountain.blogspot.com has some good tips. I am currently carrying out a 50 Amazon-centric Hubs in July experiment.

Welcome to HubPages! I'm always interested in these personal experiments... For some people they turn out amazingly well. Before I joined the HubPages staff, I was a regular user for about a year. My experience was by no means typical, but I published an average of 15 hubs a month (about twice what you plan to) and was making $10 a day from AdSense after 5 months. I was doing zero keyword research. So I wouldn't be surprised if your $1/month estimate turns out to have been conservative.

Anyway, good luck, and keep us posted!

Good luck with your experiment! :)

I'm just trying my best, I am trying to do at least 1 hubs a week but 2 is better for me lately. I hope that within a year I can start paying for my art supplies, (aprox $30 a month) with my hubpage income. However my other goal here is to write quality content that people find useful and help them... this is also a good learning experience for me as I learn more about the topics I write about. ;) Nice hub!

It's a glad that you are experimenting in hubpages. I joined here 9 months ago but I am active just from 3 months ago. Although I don't write any hub related to my experiment, I am also doing the same experiment. I also set a target. I have another 3 months in my hand to do the experiment. After that I will tell my experiment result and success.

Just passing through the neighborhood. Was curious to see if you were able to maintain your experiment. I joined Hubpages and then fell off for a few months, but now I am starting a similar journey to yours. Hopefully I can produce around 10 hubs a month until the end of the year.

As interesting as the money sounds, my main motivation is the joy of writing and sharing in a community. But then again, a few extra pennies won't hurt either.
